Located in the southeastern corner of the state near the border of Virginia, Greenbrier State Forest provides over 5,100 acres of heavily forested, mountainous terrain for outdoor recreation.  Magnificent views of the surrounding countryside are afforded by the impressive and imposing 3,280 high Kate's Mountain.

Cell phone service in the forest
Guests staying at Greenbrier State Forest now have cell phone coverage due to a new tower installed in the Greenbrier County area. The cabin area, campground and recreational areas have good to exceptional signal.

Show-Me-Hike – Annual Event
The weekend begins with an evening program on Friday. Start Saturday with a morning bird walk. Gather at Shelter #1 at 10:00 am to choose from five different hikes, a van tour or children’s program. See and identify common, rare and unique wildflowers along the Greenbrier
River of the shale barrens of Kate’s Mountain. Morning, afternoon or all day tours from which to choose. Suitable for all ages. Bring your lunch and camera. No charge.

Three Rivers Avian Center (TRAC)
What bird says ‘who cooks for me, who cooks for you all?’  Don’t know!  Come to the Birds of Prey Educational Program featuring live birds of prey native to West Virginia.  Raptors including hawks and owls are part of this program. Learn about their habitat, diet and behaviors; most comment causes of injury. Open to the public.  No charge to attend. Great family activity.

Civil War Weekend – An Annual Event
Reenactment of the Battle of White Sulphur Springs (Battle of Dry Creek).
Camp  sets up Friday. Living history demonstrations depicting Civil War camp life; period costumes; campsites open for viewing nad talking with re-enactors on Saturday, August 15th.  The actual battle re-enactment is Sunday, August 16th at 2 p.m. with commentary and background around 1:30 p.m. Activities offered at no charge and are always open to the public.
